The Brandenburger Gate

The Brandenburger Gate is one of the most famous landmark in Europe. It is located in the western part of the city centre of Berlin. It stands at junction of Unter den Linden and Ebertstrasse. At this time, the Brandenburg Gate is a symbol of freedom and peace and a witness symbolic fall of the Berlin Wall.  The landmark becomes a symbol of various regimes throughout its history.

Brandenburger Gate is one of the most familiar structure in the world. In the beginning, this structure is part of the other structures that forms the gate’s entrance into Berlin. The Gate was designed  by Carl Gotthard Langhans with three pillars in each side. It has been createdby four small entrances and one big entrance in the middle. Statue on top of the gate calls Berlin Quadriga is a sculpture shaped carriage pulled by four horses and driven by Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory.

Germany  became devidedinto two parts after the world war II ended. They are West Germany and East Germany. Then people are not allowed to trip through the Gate. So that the Brandenburg Gate has become a symbol of Soviet oppression.The Brandenburg Gate was renovated and reopened on the 12th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
